The Ministry of Economic Affairs(MOEA) hosted "Renewable Energy Week 2016" in Taipei World Trade Center Hall 3 from August 25th to 27th. The two parallel sessions of "Taiwan Wind Power Investment International Conference and Exhibition" and "Green Energy Expo" are aimed to make the government policy targeting at 20% renewable energy generation by 2025 known to the public and show Taiwan's advantages in renewable resources. The Vice President Mr. Chien-Jen Chen, Vice Minister of MOEA Mr. Wei-Fuu Yang, and the Mayor of Changhua County Mr. Ming-Ku Wei attended the ceremony. Five other nations' pavilions were set up in the exhibition including Denmark, France, Germany, Netherlands and the UK. It is hoped that the platform for technology exchanges can be established for mutual benefits.

In addition, the honored guests for the opening ceremony also included the Director General of Bureau of Energy Mr. Chuan-Neng Lin, the member of the Legislative Yuan Mrs. Tai-Hua Lin, and the ambassadors/representatives of 22 countries. The Pavilions of five countries, Denmark, France, Germany, Netherlands and the UK were established to strengthen the cooperation between the countries so as to achieve bilateral business opportunities, and to jointly expand the renewable resource market
The Vice President Mr. Chien-Jen Chen addressed in the ceremony and indicated that the green industry has become a key pillar among the five core industries of the new government, the inadequacy in Taiwan's industrial chain and in the energy system would have to be addressed so that the energy transformation can be achieved. The international technology, experience and capital, and the investment made by international corporations, on the other hand, have become the base and therefore create a trustworthy partnership in the Asian renewable resources market. This would reduce the costs and increase the regional competitiveness for a win-win opportunity.

Following the speech of Vice President, the Vice Minister of the MOEA Mr. Wei-Fuu Yang stated that the Taiwan Strait is one of the best sites in the world for offshore wind farm, the MOEA has adopted the sequential deployment strategy which starts from demonstration in the early stage so that the local companies can earn practical experiences for implementation, and then gradually moves up to the zonal development with economic scales. It is planned to reach 3,000 MW on offshore wind power capacity by 2025.

The "Green Energy Expo" included "Pavilion of the Bureau of Energy" and "Exhibition of Green Energy Manufacturers". The former showcased the renewable energy promotion by the Bureau of Energy, the R&D strength in green energy, and the elevated policy recognition . The latter provided a platform for the products made by local green energy manufacturers so as to create business opportunities. More than 70 green energy industries with about 100 stands featuring the areas of renewable energy, energy conservation, energy storage, system integration and others, have shown the strength of Taiwan in green energy industry.
Some other activities and programs in "Renewable Energy Week 2016" such as "Green Energy Industry Development Forum", "International Symposium on Advanced Metering Infrastructure and Demand Side Management 2016", "Seminar of Carbon Sequestration and Oil-producing with the Application of Microalgae Resource 2016", "International Conference on Grid Interconnection Technology of Offshore Wind Power 2016", "PV Systems Technology and Financial Services Competitiveness Forum" and "Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant Financing Model Workshop" are also available.
