Taiwan ranked No. 11 worldwide and No. 5 in the Asia Pacific region in Doing Business 2017.
With a total score of 81.09 points, Taiwan placed ahead of major economies such as Germany, Canada, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, mainland China, France and India, according to a World Bank annual report released on Oct. 26.
"Doing Business 2017" is the 14th in a series of annual reports measuring the regulations that enhance business activity and those that constrain it. Doing Business presents quantitative indicators on business regulations and the protection of property rights that can be compared across 190 economies.
New Zealand ranked as the most business-friendly country in the annual survey with a total score of 87.01, leaving Singapore, last year's winner, in second place with a score of 85.05, according to the report.
Taiwan outperforms in getting electricity and construction permits, and performs relatively well in starting a business, registering property, enforcing contracts, and protecting minority investors, the data showed.
