Taiwan FDI Statistics Summary Analysis (October 2016)

According to the statistics of the Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, 2,838 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total amount of US$10,291,060,000 were approved from January to October 2016. This indicates a decrease of 8.98% in the number of cases, but an increase of 178.96% in the FDI amount as compared with the same period of 2015.
With regard to inward investment from Mainland China, 130 cases were approved with an amount of US$215,998,000 from January to October 2016, indicating an increase of 60.87% in the FDI amount as compared with the same period of 2015. Aggregated from June 30, 2009 to October 31, 2016, 919 cases were approved with a total investment added up to US$1,659,214,000.
In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (except to Mainland China), 416 projects were registered from January to October 2016 with a total amount of US$10,354,334,000, indicating an increase of 10.05% in the number of cases, and an increase of 10.16% in the amount as compared with the same period of 2015.
As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 188 applications have been approved from January to October 2016, indicating a decrease of 31.88% as compared with the same period of 2015. The approved investment amount is US$7,440,551,000, a decrease of 14.70% as compared with the same period in 2015.
