The 30th Taiwan Fashion Design Award Tang Chun-Hsiang Won the First Prize in the Final Selection

Organized by the Industrial Development Bureau under Ministry of Economic Affairs and implemented by the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF), the 2016 Taiwan Fashion Design Award (TFDA) final selection runway show and award ceremony were held on November 11st at the Taipei Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. There were 482 participants from 10 countries and regions who participated in the preliminary contest, and 16 outstanding designers stood out from the competition, and displayed their talent in the final selection.
In order to encourage students to enter the industry, the industry elites have also been very supportive of the TFDA activities. This year with the strong sponsorship of companies such as Eclat Textile Co., Ltd., Wintex Knitwear Corp., Yi Jinn Industrial Co., Ltd., and Lectra System (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., they contributed to the total prize of US$ 39,000. With a collection called “Climate Refugee”, Tang Chun-Hsiang, a young talent from Taiwan, won this year’s First Prize and US$ 10,000. Two second prizes worth US$5,000 each were awarded to Kseniia Novakovskaia from Russia and Hsieh Yi-Chun from Taiwan, with their works Vanity of Vanities: All is Vanity and The Art of Travel. The third prizes were divided into 3 categories and each worth US$3,000. One was Lin Yu-Ting for the Best Material Application. The others were Chang Kai-I for the Best Pattern Skill, and Tsai I-Yu for the Best Commercialization. In addition to the top six winners, 10 finalists were awarded US$1,000 each, as to recognize their creative performances.
This year’s judge panel is composed of 6 influential professionals that are renowned internationally in the fashion industry, including Dai Fujiwara, a well-known Japanese master in design and creativity, Anupreet Bhui, senior editor of British fashion media WGSN, Chiemi Kominato, editor-in-chief of Japan’s fashion website Fashionsnap. Moreover, Yen Lin Hsu, the design director of famous brand Yen-Line, Stephane Dou, the co-founder of Taiwan’s leading designer brand STEPHANEDOU-CHANGLEE YUGIN, and Charlotte Chiang, Deputy Director of TTF. The panel stated, “As for the clothing details, the finalists showed surpassing standards in clothing completion, so we look forward to the participants joining the textile and apparel industry in the future.”
