Europe ranks as top market for Taiwan-made bicycles

Taiwan-made bicycles and bicycle parts are highly competitive around the world, with Europe being their biggest overseas market, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Economic Affairs Jan. 16, 2017.
A total of 50.5 percent of Taiwan's bicycle and bicycle part exports for 2016 went to Europe, the tallies showed. North America was the second largest market, at 23.4 percent of the total, followed by Asia at 17.5 percent.
The three biggest national markets for Taiwan- made bicycles were the United States, the Netherlands, and Great Britain, while the largest markets for Taiwan bike parts were Germany, the United States and the Netherlands.
Taiwan-made bicycles and parts accounted for 37. 1 percent of the Netherlands' imports of such products, and 26.1 percent of Britain's, both higher shares than for mainland China-made bikes and parts. The figure for the Japanese market, which focuses on low-priced bicycles for commuting, was just 14 percent.
