New car registrations in Poland hit 16-year monthly high

New car registrations in Poland in December reached 49,553, representing a year-on-year increase of 13.38 percent and the highest monthly level since June 2000, Reuters reported on Jan. 4, 2017.

New registrations rose 17.52 percent month on month, and have grown for 21 consecutive months, mostly led by corporate purchases, Reuters said.

For the whole of 2016, a total of 475,942 cars were registered in Poland, up 16.58 percent from 2015.

"The used car market remained the main source for supplying cars to that group, with a large share of imports of such vehicles," a representative from automotive market research institute Samar said.

Sales of diesel-powered cars fell, tracking a broader European trend, while sales of cars with hybrid and electric motors rose.

The most popular car model registered in Poland was the Skoda Octavia, produced by Skoda, the Czech subsidiary of Volkswagen.
