Taiwan FDI Statistics Summary Analysis (January 2017)

According to the statistics of Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, 198 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total amount of US$366,860,000 were approved in January 2017. This indicates a decrease of 30.04% in the number of cases, and a decrease of 27.11% in FDI amount compared with the same period of 2016.
With regard to inward investment from Mainland China, 13 cases were approved with an amount of US$31,800,000 in January 2017. This indicates a decrease of 38.1% in the number of cases, but an increase in the FDI amount (396.49%) compared with the same period of 2016. Aggregated from July 2009 to January 2017, 960 cases were approved with a total investment amount added up to US$1,722,644,000.
In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (except Mainland China), 32 projects were registered in January 2017 with a total amount of US$461,757,000 indicating a decrease of 30% in the number of cases but an increase of 113.69% in the amount as compared with the same period of 2016.
As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 38 applications have been approved in January 2017, indicating an increase of 90% compared with the same period of 2016. The approved investment amount is US$592,225,000, 80.55% more than the same period in 2016.
