Taiwan FDI Statistics Summary Analysis (March 2017)

According to the statistics of Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, 757 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total amount of US$1,093,654,000 were approved from January to March 2017. This indicates an increase of 2.16% in the number of cases, but a decrease of 12.86% in FDI amount compared with the same period of 2016.
With regard to inward investment from Mainland China, 38 cases were approved with an amount of US$53,701,000 from January to March 2017. This indicates increase in the FDI amount 58.41% compared with the same period of 2016. Aggregated from July 2009 to March 2017,985 cases were approved with a total investment amount added up to US$1,744,545,000.
In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (except Mainland China), 116 projects were registered from January to March 2017 with a total amount of US$4,363,435,000 indicating a decrease of 17.14% in the number of cases，but an increase of 50.44% in the amount as compared with the same period of 2016.
As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 133 applications have been approved from January to March 2017, indicating an increase of 121.67% compared with the same period of 2016. The approved investment amount is US$1,976,816,000，22.28% less than the same period in 2016.
