Mr. Chih-Kung Lee, the Minister of Economic Affairs, visited Taiwan Institute for Plumbing Innovation in Lugang on June 12th, accompanied by Mr. Ming-Yu Lin, Changhua County’s Deputy Magistrate , and Legislators Ms. Hui-Mei Wang and Ms. Hsiu-Fang Huang. Mr. Yung-Fang Yang, Chairman of the Institute, gave the visitors a guided tour to introduce the development and prospects of Taiwan’s plumbing industry. Minister Lee also shared the details of the Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program.

The production value of the domestic plumbing industry is around 50 billion NTD per year, mostly through export. There are currently around 300 companies dedicated to the industry, with around 225 of them located in central or northern Taiwan. Those in the Dinfanpo industry cluster within Changhua are in close collaboration with each other, utilizing resources from upstream and downstream sectors and offering comprehensive solutions and services from open-die forging and machinery processing, to surface processing. This gives them an advantage against low-price competition and thus making them a legendary success in the development history of Taiwan’s plumbing industry.

Minister Lee emphasized that the Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program is intended to lay a foundation for Taiwan’s future development. The budget planning will be carried out in stages according to the needs and can be adjusted anytime, thereby efficiently pooling and utilizing resources for accelerated public constructions and comprehensive national development in the future.

Currently, the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) has designated the southwest side of the West-1 Section of Lunwei for industrial use, where 50 hectares of which is the "metal surface processing industry zone" that can be sold or rented to businesses. Interested companies will be able to pre-register within this year. In addition, to address the issue of the lack of land for industrial use, IDB will be working based on the Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program to offer local governments the opportunity to apply for funds to establish local industrial parks and undertake the industrialization of farmland.

In conclusion, Minister Lee expressed his hopes that the Dinfanpo plumbing industry cluster can serve as the center in establishing a local industrial park in Lugang, which he expects to develop into a stronghold for the R&D and innovation of plumbing products in Asia.
