The Department of Industrial Technology(DoIT), Ministry of Economic Affairs held the EUREKA Globalstars Taiwan Call Kick-off event on September 14 with the Netherlands Office Taipei, the British Office Taipei, and the Trade Office of Canada in Taipei. Dr. Chiou Chyou-Huey, Director General of DoIT, Representative Guido Tielman, Deputy Representative Tom Burn, and Executive Acting Director Ed Jager, from the aforementioned representative offices, and Stephen Su, Senior Vice President of Industrial Technology Research Institute, attended the event to witness the kick-off of the 8 EUREKA projects.

EUREKA is the world's biggest public network for international cooperation in R&D and innovation. It is the second time that Taiwan joins a EUREKA Globalstars call. In 2018, the Netherlands, France, Demark, and Taiwan had a joint call on photonics. This time Taiwan works with the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Together the participating countries received 14 applications, among them 8 projects covering semiconductor, photonics, smart manufacturing, and circular economy fields were acknowledged and funded by the governments and attracted an investment of around 11 million euros from the public and private sectors.
