After the enthusiastic response to the Northern Europe session of the Exchange Workshop for Investing in Taiwan, the Department of Investment Services (DoIS) of the MOEA held the second online session for European businesses on June 14. The main theme was ''Energy Storage: A New Business Opportunity on the Path to Net Zero'' and focused on energy storage and high-capacity power conditioning systems. Working with the MOEA's Economic Divisions located at Representative Offices in Germany, Frankfurt, Spain, and Italy, the DoIS hopes to help European businesses, like those from Germany, capitalize on the business opportunities brought about by Taiwan's policies on energy storage and renewable energy applications.

Mr. Emile M.P. Chang, CEO of InvesTaiwan, referred to Germany and other European nations as pioneering leaders in the promotion of energy storage and sustainable development in his opening remarks - cordially inviting European businesses to invest in related fields in Taiwan and work together to achieve net-zero goals.

As an operator of charging stations, Mr. Chang, Chairman of Blokcert Technology Inc., explained that Taiwan has a large need for power conditioning systems (PCS) and that cooperating with a PCS supplier with the capacity to operate independent electrical grids would be a win-win situation.

Technical Director Dr. Chang-Chung, Yang of the New Energy Application Technology Team at ITRI's Green Energy and Environment Research Laboratories, pointed out that Taiwan has many powerful system integrators, as well as manufacturers of battery packs (including electrodes and modules) and power converters. The Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City has also been established as a demonstration area, positioning Taiwan as an outstanding partner in the field of energy storage and batteries for international businesses.

Mr. Marco Tsai, General Manager of the Smart Energy BU at Tatung Company (a systems integrator) also shared the practical achievements of Tatung's collaboration with Taipower, which include stabilizing power system frequencies and reducing the impact of power outages.

The event was attended online by IHK Frankfurt am Main, Ciel & Terre from France (a major manufacturer of floatovoltaic systems) , Albufera Energy Storage from Spain (a hidden champion in aluminum-ion EV batteries), TERTEC from Taiwan, etc.
