Deputy Minister of Economic Affaris Chern-Chyi "C.C." Chen received a Lithuanian delegation led by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Agne Vaiciukeviciute on August 8. The two sides had discussions on a wide range of issues, including electric buses, offshore wind power, and 5G supply chain. With Deputy Minister Chen's visit to Lithuania and calling on Deputy Minister Vaiciukeviciute this May, the return visit of Deputy Minister Vaiciukeviciute this time illustrates Lithuania's efforts in promoting bilateral cooperation, and further shows the determination of the two countries to deepen their partnership and explore mutual opportunities.
Deputy Minister Vaiciukeviciute said that Taiwan and Lithuania have found some potential cooperation opportunities based on their respective advantages. For example, the electric vehicle manufacturers from the two countries are planning to form substantive partnerships in near future. The Lithuanian delegation, consisting of the officials from the Ministry of Transport and Communications and representatives from the electric vehicle industry, will visit relevant government agencies as well as Taiwan's electric bus companies to have further exchanges.
Deputy Minister Chen said that the EU's policy to achieve zero-emission by 2030 will accelerate the growth of the electric bus market in the EU. As Taiwan manufactures key components for electric vehicles, the cooperation in such area between the two countries can be very promising. In addition, with its capacity for offshore wind farms, Taiwan will be happy to see the two countries work together and become the key wind power suppliers for Taiwan, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Through the mutual visits of the two sides, it is hoped that the trade and investment relations between Taiwan and Lithuania will have concrete results.
Ever since October 2021 when Taiwan's economic and trade observation mission visited Lithuania, there have been frequent exchanges between the government officials and industry representatives from both sides. The first Taiwan-Lithuania Economic Dialogue was held this May in Vilnius, marking a milestone for industrial cooperation between the two sides.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs said that it is pleased to see Taiwan and Lithuania have close exchanges in many fields and have started to cooperate. The MOEA will keep close contact with relevant government agencies in Lithuania to strengthen economic and trade cooperation in the highlighted industries, and will jointly build a resilient, secure and prosperous supply chain with Lithuania.
