The 25th UK-Taiwan Trade Talks deepen bilateral economic partnership
The 25th UK-Taiwan Trade Talks were held in-person on November 9, 2022 in Taipei. The talks focused on the topics concerning agriculture, energy, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, Fintech and data flows, science and technology, economic resilience, supply chain collaboration, and enhancing links for businesses and people between Taiwan and the UK.

After the talks, the Department of Industrial Technology (DoIT) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Innovate UK that encourages companies in Taiwan and the UK to increase collaboration on technology and innovation.

The UK's prompt arrangement of its itinerary for this visit right after Taiwan relaxed its quarantine restrictions indicated the importance that the UK attaches to the UK-Taiwan trade partnership. It was also the first time that the UK-Taiwan annual Trade Talks were held physically since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 25th UK-Taiwan Trade Talks were co-chaired by the Deputy Minister Chern-Chyi Chen "C.C." of Ministry of Economic Affairs and Trade Policy Minister Greg Hands of the Department for International Trade (DIT). The UK-Taiwan Trade Talks are held annually. To facilitate sectoral cooperation, dialogues on agriculture and energy were included under the Trade Talks.

Also, the DG-level pre-meeting of the Trade Talks was held in advance between Director General Cynthia Kiang of the BOFT and Trade Commissioner for the Asia-Pacific Natalie Black of the DIT to discuss in-depth technical details about trade issues.
