In order to strengthen the economic relationship between Taiwan and Indonesia, an Memorandum of Understanding on Standardization and Conformity Assessment Cooperation (MoU) that has been under discussion between both sides for more than 7 years was finalized on May 3, 2024. Mr. John C. Chen, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Indonesia (TETO), and Mr. Iqbal Shoffan Shofwan, Representative of the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office to Taipei (IETO), signed the MoU on behalf of each side. Delegates from the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) and the Badan Standardisasi Nasional (BSN) also attended the signing ceremony.
Following the MoU on Metrology Cooperation in 2018, this new MoU represents the second collaborative initiative undertaken by the BSMI with its Indonesian counterparts. This MoU aims to deepen the bilateral cooperation in the fields of standardization and conformity assessment, including personnel exchanges, experience sharing, and technical collaboration. It will enhance mutual understanding and harmonization of regulatory systems. In addition, industries on both sides will be able to benefit from mutually agreed trade facilitation arrangements that grant easy access to each other's market.
The trade between Indonesia and Taiwan has exposed resilience and vitality after the pandemic. Both sides will work closely together to support industry competitiveness and develop initiatives to amplify the benefits outlined in the MoU.
