Creative packaging also helps reduce carbon emissions
The International Trade Administration (TITA), Ministry of Economic Affairs will expand its carbon-reduction packaging design services to assist businesses adapt to international sustainable packaging trends. The services will include design guidance, thematic seminars, practical consultations, and overseas promotion.

TITA commissioned the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) to support small and medium-sized enterprises in Taiwan to implement green product packaging. This approach matches design firms with enterprises to create customized carbon-reduction packaging designs based on product needs. The design guidance covers diverse industries including food processing, automotive, machinery, cultural and creative gifts, and medical beauty products. It will lead to a proactive adoption of carbon-reduction packaging designs across various sectors.

During the first half of this year, several food gift box packaging cases serve as successful examples. Previously, many companies used complex colors and excessive packaging for their products. After receiving guidance, they began using paper liners to create product configuration layers or employing minimalist single-color designs to attract attention.

There have also been successful cases in packaging for machinery components.  Guided companies replaced plastic foam with recycled corrugated paper structures for cushioning, adequately protecting products. The use of interlocking, integrated paper box designs not only reduced adhesive use but also sped up the packaging process, contributing to carbon reduction.

These successful guided companies showcased their carbon-reduction packaging at the Taiwan Expo in Europe in June. They aligned themselves with local consumer preferences for product packaging and increased the visibility of high-quality MIT products.
