MOEA launched energy saving competitions for one million households and neighborhoods (villages) to lead people consume electricity smartly
How to stay comfortable while save energy during summer? The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) launched the 2018 energy saving month ceremony and a series of programs at Taipei Expo Park on, June 9th.

MOEA takes "± 1 life experience for energy saving festival " as the principle this year to encourage people to implement energy saving measures. This means to ask people to do one extra thing for energy saving and one less thing for energy wasting. The program was designed to teach people to learn energy saving approaches easily through the interactive experience, ie. clean the filter regularly, purchase energy efficient products with ratings raging from level 1 to 2, and support green transportation etc.

MOEA indicated that the consensus and promotion of energy saving awareness require to stay in perseverance. The government started to promote "new energy saving activity program" in 2017, including the elimination of T8/T9 fluorescent tube in schools and government agencies, setting an example of adjusting the air conditioner thermostat at 26 oC to 28oC, as well as providing the subsidization and related guidance to the power equipment department of industry.

For achieving the goal of "saving 1kWh per household per day", the energy saving competitions for one million households and neighborhoods (villages) will be launched this summer. In addition, the energy saving award program is ongoing this year. 0.6 NTD will be awarded for saving 1kWh, after completely signing up on Taipower Company website. Currently, over 2.4 million households have signed up already.

Finally, MOEA emphasized that electricity is a derived demand, which always increases with the economic development and improvement of living quality. The government should not only set an example in energy saving, but also lead all citizens to use electricity more wisely to create a win-win situation for saving money and constructing a sustainable environment.
