Extending the Effectiveness of Metal Innovation Application Competition and Promoting the Commercialization of Excellent Entries
Organization: Industrial Development Bureau, MOEA        Publish Date: 2018-09-13 14:53
To encourage entrepreneurs and young students to devote their energy to metals R&D and design, and to broaden the scope of metal-related applications and industrial scale, the Industrial Development Bureau has organized the Metal Innovation Application Competition to create industrial economic benefits.

It has become one of the highlights of the competition that award-winning entries are entered into international competitions and commercialized, while extending their benefits. Statistics show that, in recent years, outstanding entries of the Metal Innovation Application Competition entered into international competitions have won a total of 10 international competition awards, including the German Red Dot Design Award, the Silver Medal of the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, the Japanese Good Design Award (G-Mark), the Gold Medal of the Moscow Archimedes International Invention Exhibition, and the Gold Medal of the Seoul International Invention Fair.
In addition, 22 award-winning entries have been commercialized since 2010, creating an output value of more than NT$1 billion, while the scale of the metal industry has expanded. For example, guidance was provided on completing the development of the award-winning “aluminum alloy hand-brewed coffee dripper stand” and putting it into mass production. It is estimated that an output value of approximately NT$15 million a year can be created, which is in line with the original purpose of the competition to develop new products, introduce innovative designs and broaden industrial applications.
The themes of this year’s Metal Innovation Application Competition for student groups are “Material Substitution and Creative Life” and “Material Optimization and Efficiency Improvement”, while the theme for social groups is “Technology Breakthrough and Value Creation”. A total of 112 entries from student groups in the preliminary contest, including 87 entries for “Material Substitution and Creative Life” and 25 entries for “Material Optimization and Efficiency Improvement,” were evaluated on August 10th, with 32 entries entering the finals. The submission deadline for entries from social groups is September 25th. The final review and award ceremony will be held in Kaohsiung in November.
