BSMI establishes standard for study desk lamps BSMI, MOEA August 13, 2018

Lamps are often used as a source of light for study at home and in offices. To ensure sufficient light source and eye comfort, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology & Inspection (BSMI) has established CNS 16048 "Desk luminaries for study task," stating specifications such as sufficient illuminance, anti-glare, no flickering, ultraviolet ray and blue ray proof capabilities. It is hoped that CNS 16048 will improve the illuminance quality of study desk lamps.

The BSMI said that CNS 16048 is applicable to fluorescent and LED light bulbs or tubes. Requirements on electrical safety, ultraviolet ray and blue ray proof capabilities are states, along with the following items.
1) Illuminance and uniformity: to ensure sufficient light and uniform lighting
2) Glare prevention: to prevent the eye from light intensity
3) Color rendering ability: to make the colors of the object look natural
4) No flickering: to prevent eye strain

The above requirements not only ensures safety but also improves the performance of study desk lamps, giving users a more comfortable working environment. Consumers are advised to purchase quality lamps according to individual needs.
