Three Policies to Transform the Motorcycle Industry, 17 kick-off Sessions Around Taiwan
Organization: Industrial Development Bureau, MOEA        Publish Date: 2019-09-05 10:22
Known as the “Motorcycle Kingdom”, Taiwan has more than 14 million motorcycles, or one for every 1.5 people. With greater awareness of environmental protection, smart technology and green energy have become important considerations in terms of the development of the motorcycle industry. Cooperating with the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), the Ministry of Labor (MOL) and the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), the Executive Yuan is taking the lead to help transform and upgrade traditional motorcycle shops. Starting from Taipei, New Taipei and Taoyuan, there will be at least 17 kick-off sessions for the new policies all over the country.

Three preferential policies for transforming the motorcycle industry

Integrating the resources of the government, motorcycle shops, and repair factories, three preferential policies will be introduced in kick-off sessions. First is the “motorcycle repairing course”: Nine domestic motorcycle brands and the motorcycle union will give training courses on both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric motorcycle service and repair. Meanwhile, the government will require electric motorcycle operators to release more repairing/selling opportunities. Second is financial aid for motorcycle shop transformation: Starting from 2019, the government will provide low-interest loans to traditional motorcycle shop operators, until 2022. Third is improving service and repair qualities for ICE/electric motorcycles: The government will help motorcycle technicians and operators diversify operation subjects and improve their professional skills. Every session will also invite local operators and dealer representative to share their thoughts as well as the latest market trends.

Assisting 10,000+ local motorcycle service shops in 4 years

The Executive Yuan has decided to introduce MOEA’s Employment Stability Fund to help transform local motorcycle shops. The Small and Medium Enterprise Administration (SMEA)’s SME Development Fund also provides motorcycle practitioners with preferential financing loans and interest subsidies with a maximum interest rate of 1.595%, a 0.3% surety commission, and a maximum NT$6 million loan for equipment purchase or store renovation.
