Economic and Trade Cooperation Between Taiwan and Canada Focused on Technological Innovation, Electric Vehicle Supply Chain
The 17th Canada-Taiwan Economic Consultations (CTEC) was held virtually on 14 December 2021. Both sides exchanged views on economic, trade and bilateral cooperation topics.

The 17th CTEC covers a wide range of issues, which fully demonstrates that when it comes to facing the pandemic and supply chain restructuring challenges, Taiwan and Canada fully agree on strengthening bilateral cooperation.

In addition, Taiwan and Canada shared views on investment, agricultural products market access, technological innovation cooperation, intellectual property rights dialogue, and indigenous affairs.

Both sides also discussed issues that could bring more opportunities for cooperation between the private and public sectors: green economy, bilingual education, and supply chain cooperative research.

Taiwan and Canada have close economic and trade relations, as Taiwan is Canada's sixth largest trading partner in Asia. From January to October 2021, Canadian investment in Taiwan reached 35.08 million U.S. dollars, a significant increase of 237.11% over the same period last year.

Meanwhile, Taiwan and Canada affirmed that CTEC was an important platform for promoting bilateral economic and trade cooperation, and will continue to cooperate through this platform to resolve bilateral issues and deepen their bilateral economic and trade relationship.
