Event Review


The ICAC International Seminar 2017, Taipei was held Sept. 18, with over 250 local and overseas textile experts and professionals, including representatives of 13 ICAC member states, taking part.


The theme of the seminar was “Market Trends and Sustainability of the Cotton & Textile Industry.” The event, jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and International Cotton Advisory Committee, was the sixth of its kind hosted by Taipei since 2005.


Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Mei-Hua Wang and ICAC Executive Director Kai Hughes delivered opening remarks. The seminar also included presentations on a range of topics, such as digitization of the textile industry, cotton and synthetic fiber supply chains, big data and AI for smart manufacturing, the impact of e-commerce, and innovation in the sector, to name a few.


Side meetings and field visits were also arranged for the participating ICAC member representatives, including from Australia, South Africa and the U.S.


The seminar effectively promoted international exchanges with Taiwan's textile industry and highlighted the local sector’s competitive strengths, while also helping to forge closer ties between Taiwan and the ICAC and its member states.
