Taiwan's first CCUS demonstration field to launch in Formosa Plastics Group.

Plastics are present in many aspects of our lives, however, the related industries now needs to reduce its carbon footprint under the global Net-Zero targets. DOIT promoted and organized a CCUS demonstration project, in which Formosa Plastics Group, ITRI and NCKU were invited to join it. This project involves 3 innovative technologies, including CO2 capture process, by-product H2 purification process and CO2 utilization process. The field construction works were completed by the end of 2021 and so far has been operating for more than 6 months. Based on the commissioning test results, the CO2 capture capacity is estimated of 36 ton/year. Furthermore, 12 ton/year of green alkanes could be produced in the CO2 utilization process. Achieving Net-zero emissions targets and a CO2 circular economy are huge challenges for existing industries. The results of demonstration field are expected to accelerate the CO2 reduction and utilization in other industries, e.g. steel, chemical, power plants...etc.
