Deputy Minister leads major delegation to Lithuania

Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Chern-Chyi "C.C." Chen is heading a 24-member delegation of government officials and representatives of industry and research organizations on a three-day visit to Lithuania May 25-28 at the invitation of Lithuanian Vice-Minister of the Economy and Innovation Jovita Neliupsiene.

A number of major activities have been arranged during the visit, including the holding of the 1st Lithuania-Taiwan Vice-Ministerial Economic Dialogue, and a bilateral industrial cooperation forum.

The delegation will also visit a number of senior government officials as well as several enterprises, including the factory of a local electric bus manufacturer. In addition, the Minister will witness the signing of a cooperation memorandum of understanding between Taiwan Startup Terrace in Linkou and the Lithuanian Investment Promotion Agency.

The aim of the visit is to explore potential niche areas of cooperation between Lithuanian and Taiwan industry and to forge connections that help lead to closer bilateral economic, trade and investment ties between the two sides.

Following the Lithuania trip, Deputy Minister Chen and his delegation will also visit Belgium to meet with various EU officials and agencies.

The Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania was officially established on Nov. 19, 2021, and the two sides have been actively conducting close economic and trade exchanges since then.

In October 2021, Taiwan organized a 66-member official Central and Eastern European Economic and Trade Mission, which included a stop in Lithuania. In March this year, Taiwan formed a delegation of experts to visit to the Baltic nation to survey potential bilateral economic, trade and investment opportunities in order to draw up a roadmap of future cooperation directions between the two sides.

During this visit, Deputy Minister Chen and the Lithuanian Ministry of Economy and Innovation will establish a high-level exchange platform and discuss possible directions of bilateral cooperation in a range of sectors, including semiconductors, lasers, electric vehicles, biotechnology and others. The two sides have been working to forge a stronger partnership based on the shared values of democracy and freedom so as to create a more resilient democratic supply chain.

In addition, Deputy Minister Chen will lead a Taiwan team of 5 startups to take part a in innovation exhibition, Lithuania's largest new innovation exhibition. The team's participation is aimed at helping Taiwanese entrepreneurs forge links with Central and Eastern Europe's innovation ecosystem, and at boosting the visibility of Taiwan's startup and innovation strengths on the international stage.
