Amendments to Inspection Requirements for Safety Belts Take Effect on July 1, 2023
Safety belts are essential protective equipment to safeguard users from injuries from falling when working at height. They are regulated products and amendments to the inspection requirements were published on October 18, 2022 to enhance their performance and to be in line with relevant international standards. The amended requirements will enter into force on July 1, 2023.

Safety belts are belts/lanyards or devices for anchoring position or restraints that are connected to personal fall-arrest system to arrest the user in a fall from a working level. They include belts for work positioning and restraint and work positioning lanyards, full-body harnesses and safety belts (fasten type). These products are subject to mandatory inspection, some of them being added to the inspection scope as early as 1993. Both imported or domestically-manufactured products are required to comply with relevant national standards before they can be placed on the market. The amendments were made by making references to the updated national standards for belts for work positioning and restraint and work positioning lanyards and full-body harnesses. The inspection methods are also revised to reflect practical needs.

The BSMI urges companies to ensure the safety of products and correctness of labeling so as to protect consumers' right and safety. It reminds business operators and consumers to buy products that are labeled with the Commodity Inspection Mark. More information about the amendments are available at BSMI's website (https://www.bsmi.gov.tw). The BSMI also encourages consumers to learn more about the products before purchasing them.
