The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), through its Department of Industrial Technology (DoIT), unveiled a dedicated pavilion on the opening day of the 2023 Bio Asia. This pavilion served as a platform to showcase nine pioneering technologies developed by prominent research organizations in Taiwan, namely the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), the Development Center for Biotechnology (DCB), and the Food Industry Research and Development Institute (FIRDI), all of which are leading non-profit research institutions.

Among the exhibits were a groundbreaking proteolysis targeting chimera (PROTAC) therapy for addressing prostate cancer, and an innovative technology for texturizing plant-based meat. In response to the challenge posed by the 5-year survival rate of under 30% for patients with recurrent prostate cancer, PROTAC has emerged as a protein degradation therapy that effectively suppresses tumor growth. The technology for texturizing plant-based meat imparts authentic meat-like textures to products derived from plants, replicating the sensations of chicken, pork, fish, and beef without the necessity of incorporating additives like adhesives. This texturization innovation is poised for commercialization through a startup venture scheduled to launch by the conclusion of 2023. The MOEA remains committed to substantial investments aimed at propelling Taiwan into a bio-manufacturing hub grounded in innovation.
