2023 42nd Young Designers' Exhibition Showcases the Innovative Power of Young Talents with the Theme of ORIGIN
The 2023 42nd Young Designers' Exhibition (YODEX) was held from May 19th (Friday) to May 22nd (Monday) at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 2, while also being simultaneously showcased online. Marking its return after a four-year hiatus, the physical exhibition brought a sense of anticipation and novelty with the theme "ORIGIN." It underscored the importance of rekindling fundamental thinking in design and showcased the limitless potential for innovation by the new generation of designers.

Co-supervised by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Education, organized by the Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and executed by the Taiwan Design Research Institute, the 42nd Young Designers' Exhibition expanded its physical exhibition to Hall 2 of the Nangang Exhibition Center for the first time. The opening ceremony took place on May 19th with great fanfare. This exhibition featured works from 55 domestic design schools, 121 departments, and 8 overseas design institutions, covering diverse categories such as product, crafts, visual communication, spatial, fashion, multimedia, and interdisciplinary design. In total, there were over 4,000 exhibited works, not only showcasing the talent of young Taiwanese designers but also demonstrating the diverse value that design brings. The public is cordially invited to immerse themselves in the captivating works created by the new generation.

The exhibition invited architect Tsai Chia Hao to act as the curator, while the acclaimed emerging design team StudioPros Design, led by Yi-Hsuan Li, took charge of the visual design. Through a fresh venue, innovative visual concepts, and introducing a full-scale of professional curation, the exhibition integrates the presentation of graduation works from various schools and departments in Taiwan, and meanwhile plans multiple special exhibition areas with the theme "ORIGIN," conceptualized around the intersection of the coordinate axis (0, 0, 0). The aim of this exhibition is to create a platform where diverse perspectives and ideas can converge and ferment, using design as a language to foster interdisciplinary opportunities for design students, initiate more dialogues and exchanges, and facilitate open-minded thinking through the connection between academia and industry.

The "2022-2023 9th Yodex Industry-Academia Cooperation" presents the collaborative achievements in the theme exhibition area. The project this year has invited 11 renowned domestic enterprises, including ADATA Technology, Kenda Rubber Ind., Co., Ltd., and Sanyang Motor Co., Ltd., to propose design challenges based on emerging industry trends. This has garnered a record-breaking number of over 700 submissions from universities and colleges across Taiwan. Alongside the display of 40 award-winning works, the exhibition also delves into industry-related topics under the four major themes of "Environment," "Education," "Communication," and "Technology," fostering discussions with the visitors.

Furthermore, the exhibition also features a special showcase of the collaborative project "Industry-Academia Innovation: Design-Hub Demonstrative Case Study" between the Taiwan Design Research Institute, ASUS Computer Inc., and ASUS Foundation from the previous year. By revealing the design, industry, academia, and research collaboration process and outcomes of "ASUS Think Next | ASUS Design for Future 2022 Call for Entries and Workshop," the exhibition aims to explore the potential of design in bringing greater innovative value to industries. Visitors are welcome to attend the "2023 42nd Young Designers' Exhibition" and discover how design can contribute to a better future life and address important issues!
