The Ministry of Economic Affairs hosted the press conference for the 2023 R&D100 Awards Winners on October 6, 2023.
Taiwan excelled in this year's prestigious R&D100 Awards, securing an impressive haul of 12 awards and positioning itself as the second-highest achiever globally. Among the winners, nine innovations are supported by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), two by the Ministry of Digital Affairs, and one clinched by the National Atomic Research Institute.

The nine achievements supported by the MOEA span across fields such as biotechnology, zero-emission solutions, smart manufacturing, semiconductor technology, and advanced communication. The projects are as follows: the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI)'s Coordinated Supra-Molecule Complex (CSC) for Wet AMD Treatment, Novel Targeted Therapy for Glaucoma, Intelligent Radio Frequency Ablation (iRFA), VOC-3R System for VOCs recycling, AI-Driven Optimization for Precision Manufacturing, HEAD-Matrix ALD+ System for advanced atomic layer deposition, and Smart Energy for a Sustainable Ecosystem (SENSE); the Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI)'s 80 degrees Fahrenheit Thermostatic Microcapsules Ultra-fine Fiber Leather; and the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC)'s Electrochemical Machining System for Intelligent Electrode with Three-Dimensional Variable Curvature (EMS).

Other Taiwanese winners include ITRI's O-RAN Energy-efficient Private Network Management Technology, the Institute for Information Industry (III) with their Industrial Control System Cybersecurity Analytic Platform (ICSentry), and the National Atomic Research Institute (NARI) with FixCarbon Technology: Carbon-Negative Bioplastics from Afforestation. These achievements mark significant strides within their respective domains.
