In amidst of epidemic and post pandemic in Taiwan, the Industrial Development Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs has committed to promoting the development of the intelligent medical device industries in recent years, and has achieved preliminary results in creating new opportunities for the medical device industries, fulfilling the international standard and medical regulations, building up hospital clinical fields and launching in the international market.

The Industrial Development Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs, in collaboration with the Metal Industries Research and Development Centre, BestCom Infotech Corp. and IMVITEC Corp. has jointly developed a "Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Image Prediction and Evaluation System for Brain AVM Radiation Therapy. AI technology algorithms were applied to providing effects analysis and postoperative predictions prior to radiation therapy , so as to assist physician doctors in understanding the lesions, and thereby reducing medical treatment risks. This software has passed IEC 62304 medical device software validation.

The Industrial Development Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs has also integrated the capabilities of the Metal Industries Research and Development Centre, the Industrial Technology Research Institute, industries, governments, academia and research institutes in Taiwan to facilitate the industry overcome the regulatory hurdles of medical devices. In recent years, the Industrial Development Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs has assisted 22 domestic manufacturers to obtain medical device license in foreign markets, including 11 cases in the United States, 6 cases in Europe, and 5 cases in Southeast Asia. For instance, we tutored Leltek Inc.'s wireless portable ultrasound medical imaging equipment to obtain FDA certification.

In order to promote the domestic applications of medical devices and enhance the reliability by physicians, the Industrial Development Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs has assisted in the introduction of domestic digital medical products into the clinical trial field and established the "Pediatric Digital Medical and Continuity Monitoring Clinical Field" in the National Cheng Kung University Hospital in Tainan, which may provide real-time disease trends and abnormal numerical alarms, and also increase the visibility of domestic medical devices in the hospitals.

Based on the advantages of Taiwan's biomedical and ICT,  in recent years, with the facilitations of the Industrial Development Administration, the United Orthopedic Corporation, BenQ Materials Corporation, Crystalvue Medical Corporation, Inventec Appliances Corporation and other manufacturers have successfully entered the international market, and have obtained overseas orders of more than 5 million US dollars, which have not only enhanced the international visibility and competitiveness of domestic medical devices, but also increased the overseas sales turnover of enterprises.
