BSMI Released Test Results of Portable Cassette Stoves
The Mid-Autumn Festival is approaching, and portable cassette stoves are commonly used by people in Taiwan during family or friend gatherings for barbecuing. In order to ensure the usage safety of the general public, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology, and Inspection (BSMI) randomly purchased 10 portable cassette stoves of various brands for inspection through sales channels such as hardware stores. The results revealed that while all products met "Commodity Inspection Mark" and "Chinese labeling", 1 item failing to comply with the requirements of "quality criteria."

BSMI urges consumers to purchase portable cassette stoves with the "Commodity Inspection Mark" and to check the completeness of the Chinese labeling on the packaging, such as the manufacturer's name, address, and model number. When using the stove, carefully read the manual, warnings, and usage instructions. Before ignition, ensure that the gas canister is properly installed and only ignite the stove after confirming that there is no smell of gas to avoid potential dangers. Additionally, to prevent gas explosions due to overheating of the canister, do not use two or more stoves together, and avoid using overly large pots for cooking.

BSMI said that t the non-compliant product will be subject to a recall and the responsible business operator will have to take corrective actions upon receipt of a notice from the BSMI issued in accordance with Article 63-1 of the "Commodity Inspection Act." If the recall and corrective actions are not made within the specified period, a fine ranging from NT$100,000 to NT$1,000,000 will be imposed.

The BSMI emphasized that portable cassette stoves are subject to mandatory inspection and cannot be released from production sites or imported until all inspection procedures are successfully completed. To ensure ongoing product safety, the BSMI conducts an annual market surveillance program that continuously monitors the safety and compliance of products available to consumers. If any non-compliant products are identified, the BSMI investigates the root causes, conducts thorough reviews, and takes actions in accordance with relevant regulations.
